GLOBAL ENDS POLICIES:
The Crestone Charter School throughout the on-going task of exploring, debating, and adopting Ends policies, the governing council will be guided by the Crestone Charter School Mission Statement (see Mission Statement), the governing council’s definition of who is being served by the school (see Definition of Consumer), and the first draft of Ends policies that have been developed by the Crestone Charter School Governing Council (See Ends Policies 2-10). Ends policies will continue to be developed, revised, and improved through on-going linkage with the Crestone Charter School parents, students, staff and community.  

CRESTONE CHARTER SCHOOL
MISSION STATEMENT:
 
SECTION I: The mission of the Crestone Charter School is to provide a stimulating experiential program that, in a creatively structured atmosphere, nurtures each student’s sense of wonder and natural desire to learn. Emphasizing academic excellence and uniqueness of character, we strive to inspire healthy responsibility in relationship with self, community and environment, both locally and globally. (top)

SECTION II: The scope of the CCS shall include, not not be limited to the following objectives:

A. to offer an innovative educational program of academic excellence that integrates body, mind, emotions and spirit.
B. to provide a learning environment that encourages self-esteem and respects the experiences, talents and uniqueness of every student.  
C. to prepare each student to be a life long learner through relevant education.  
D. To prepare each student to find his/her place in the context of human history and to comprehend the challenges we all face in a world in transition.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
Students will graduate from Crestone Charter School with: 
1. A sense of responsibility and stewardship for the environment.
2. A knowledge of relationships between local plants, animals, people, and geography.
3. Basic outdoor survival skills that lead to a sense of competence and safety. (top)

SOCIAL SKILLS 
Students will graduate from Crestone Charter School with:

1. An ethic of responsibility and stewardship for the human community.
2. A knowledge of community relationships and processes.
3. The ability to engage in community service to benefit community and self.
4. The ability to support, care, and nurture.
5. An ability to relate with kindness, respect, and sensitivity to the rights of others and self.
6. An ability to act cooperatively to achieve common goals.
7. Conflict resolution skills to promote inner peace and social harmony.
8. An ability to recognize and participate in the chaos of diversity, realizing each student’s individuality and the creative tension between tolerance (inclusivity) and competition (exclusivity). (top)

ACADEMIC SKILLS 
Students will graduate from Crestone Charter School with: 
1. A high level of knowledge and skills addressed by the curriculum as reflected in the state standards.



 

 

2. A knowledge of various modalities of securing information.
3. A high level of reading, writing, and math.4. The academic competencies necessary to pursue personal goals.
5. A high level of intellectual skills, including analysis, synthesis, and interpretation.
6. The ability to apply academic skills to everyday, real life situations.
7. An understanding of how learning can be measured, including how to assess their own learning progress, and how to best perform on external learning assessments. (top)

HEALTH AND FITNESS 
(This is an area where we need parent/student/staff/community linkage in order to best identify appropriate Ends for a health and fitness program at Crestone Charter School) 
Issues to consider: knowledge of human sexuality/substance issues, skills in archery/gymnastics/martial arts, knowledge of nutrition, coordination skills, etc. (Be careful to focus on the Ends for health and fitness, rather than on the means such as “games.”) (top)

SELF-AWARENESS 
Students will graduate from Crestone Charter School with: 
1. The ability to achieve personal satisfaction through personal actions.
2. The unfoldment of his or her unique potential and individual sense of purpose.
3. A healthy sense of self (eg. confidence, respect, esteem, and risk-taking) that promotes self-observation and self inquiry.
4. An awareness of the integrated nature of body/ speech/ mind/ emotions/ environment.
5. An openness to the existence of other realities; what is known and what is not. (top)
 

ARTISTIC SKILLS 
Students will graduate from Crestone Charter School with: 
1. An awareness of all the areas of the arts.
2. The competencies necessary to pursue personal goals in the arts.
3. A personal interest in at least one area of the arts in order to have a creative outlet for self statement. (top)
 
CULTURAL AWARENESS
Students will graduate from Crestone Charter School with: 
1. An appreciation of contributions of various groups to American society and world civilization.
2. An accumulated experience of different cultures, traditions, lifestyles, and languages.
3. Analytical skills that enhance an understanding of media literacy and how it relates to consumer behavior. (top)
 
LIFE SKILLS/CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
Students will graduate from Crestone Charter School with: 
1. Problem solving skills and the ability to work toward long range goals/objectives.
2. The capacity to set goals.
3. The capacity for making choices and decisions and implementing them in various ways.
4. An understanding of one’s relationship with authority.

PARENT SATISFACTION 
Parents will have a peace of mind that their children are receiving the best education possible and are being treated with equal respect, kindness, and attention in a safe atmosphere.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS
The Crestone Charter School will be supported and enriched by its exchange and relationship to its owners
 
The Ownership of the Crestone Charter School will:
1. Participate in shaping the CCS End Policies.
2. Participate as volunteers and/or mentors in CCS programs.
3. Assist CCS in formulating, articulating and representing the diverse values of the Crestone/Baca community.
4. Provide support for the long-term contractual relationship with the Moffat Consolidated School District.
5. Provide material support for CCS and it programs.(top)
